When Vikings first settled Iceland around 1,200 years ago they brought with them a Northern European short tailed sheep which was later to be recognized as the “Icelandic Sheep”. Today the sheep still show many characteristics of their primitive ancestors including their duel fleece of fine worsted like under wool combined with a soft extra long outer hair.

Whilst the base colour of the Icelandic sheep is either Black or Brown (Moorit) cross procreation will propagate further natural coloured fleece pattern combinations including white, grey, badgerface (gingery brown) and the more exclusive pigmented or spotted varieties that can blend all aforementioned colour combinations.

Icelandic fleeces are Eco Friendly: because of their distinct natural colourations there is no need to use peroxide and dyes normally used to re-colour the fleece. The skins are simply cured and washed using bio degradable detergent. Thanks to their natural origin and ecological finishing, skins do not evoke allergy making them safe even for babies.
