Most machine made flat woven rugs have a decorative polypropylene face, woven into a cotton and jute backing. While conventionally cotton and jute are ideal for rug manufacture, they will readily absorb moisture which isn’t the ideal solution for outside and other wet areas. The Alfresco range of flatwoven rugs is woven using durable, stain resistant, rot proof polypropylene yarns throughout both the face and backing meaning you can happily use the rug indoors or outdoors. While we don’t recommend leaving the rug out in the rain, a little moisture isn’t going to do any lasting damage.
